Rupert Bear is a children's comic strip character created by English artist Mary Tourtel, wife of the editor of the Daily Express and first appeared in the Daily Express newspaper on 8 November 1920. Rupert's initial purpose was to win sales from the rival Daily Mail and Daily Mirror.
Rupert Bear has stood the test of time and is a must adored character who is easily recognisable in his familiar dress code of bright yellow checked trousers and scarf, red sweater and white boots.
